Crossed Croatia/Bosnia at Metkovic 2 days ago, same price 10 euro for 7 days. Tried crossing slightly further north but was no insurance broker there so they sent us back down to Metkovic.

Compulsory Insurance Unit | IAK Found this info about Kosovo. Looks like they sell it at all borders and it will be around 13 euro per bike.

Making a thread here at ADV trying to get all the details together on Balkans into one place.

Greetings,

I could use your help. I have an Africa Twin (RD07) & am thinking of heading down to Serbia & Montenegro next week for a bit of a tour. Thr bike & I live in Romania, but its a UK bike. What papers do I need? My MoT is a bit old but I can solve that! But my licence & insurance are uk originated, with greed card etc. do i need special insurance for the bike since i'm going outside the EU? My insurer was not sure when I asked a week ago? Also, do I need an international driving licence?

Best wishes,
Damian Galvin

Hi Damian,

For Serbia now - your UK policy should suffice for basic cover as they are now party to EU agreement in the same way as Switzerland and Croatia. They did not even ask for my insurance at border this year. Montenegro - not sure. For extension of full cover - that will depend on your insurer - the same applies for cover in BiH.
Your EU licence is fine.

Give me a call and can give u some pointers.

Gavin

UK registered and insured bike, wasn't even asked to see the papers for the bike, let alone insurance, when crossing into Serbia. As per below, I have linked a thread on ADV in relation to all experiences crossing Balkans borders.

We got through the Montenegro border free but others have paid. More details in the link including where we crossed.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
