Current Situation in Turkey
I was planning a moto trip to turkey for the month of July, but I'd like some advice on the current security situation.
There have been several suicide bombings in Ankara and Istanbul in the past few months, and there was just a bombing in Dagubayazit in the east last week. I recognize the first two ISIS attacks were aimed at large gatherings to inflict the maximum amount of casualties to generate the largest news coverage possible and it is unlikely to be caught in one.
I also recognize that the PKK was responsible for the bombing in the east which was aimed at the police and military forces, and the PKK has no interest in targeting or kidnapping westerners.
What I'm wondering if it's safe to travel overland throughout the country. We will not be traveling near the Syrian border towns, but if anyone knows of any other troubled areas their advice would be much appreciated.

Turkey
I´m in Cirali now, and was coming from Istanbul.
There wasn´t any issue. Stay away from the estern part and you´ll be fine.
Avoid gatherings, the company of police and military installations..
Although I visited touristic places in Istanbul, I didn´t feel unsafe.
But yo never know. There are almost no western tourists, some from Iran, enjoing the freedom. But in 4 days in Istanbul I only saw 5 tourists from the west.
The situation can change very quick. Around elections, and political events it could get hairy though.
Turkey is still a marvelous place to be!
Nice people and nice country!! Enjoy, and unworry!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
