Detail Planning Maps for Northern Spain...
Can anyone recommend a series of maps spanning the northern areas of spain and portugal (specifically the pyrenees and the picos de europa) that are suitable for planning detailed routes on the areas non surfaced roads? I guess I'm looking for something similar to the 1:50000 mapset of the uk....
any ideas?
Cheers,
Dave

Ok, some investigation has shown the 1:50000 military set to be the most likely, but to work out a route I would have to buy them all!!!! And there are quite a lot.....Any ideas for large scale planning....anyone want to sell me whole set temporarily so that I can plan a route (assuming anyone except the spanish military has a set....a long shot I know...) then buy tham back minus a 'usage' fee? I could then just buy the ones I needed.
Any ideas welcomed, any electronic data info also welcomed....

Try using the zoom feature on Via michelin.. it does show unsurfaced roads, not sure if that good enough for you, but it is free.

There's lots of posts asking for detailed maps of Spain. I came across this today:
Visor SigPac
I've had a good look at this site and compared them with my military maps which are renowned as being the most accurate that Spain has at the moment and this is what the site are using. If you pan out far enough, you will see a grid system dividing Spain into sections, with a corresponding number in each section. This is the number of the military map relating to that area. For reference, the printed maps I have are from 1996 so they may not be entirely accurate now. However, zooming in to 400m you can change the settings for the Ortofoto (satelite image) and the Topografico (map image) to get a more accurate reading. Looking at the village I live in, I would say the satellite images for Andalucia are more than 18 months old.
These maps show all the dirt tracks as well as roads and I don't think you'll find anything more accurate than this for Spain.
