Italy, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania....
Hi,
Firstly my apologies - I haven't posted for a while as work commitments have, as ever, taken precident over my travelling activities
About 18 months ago I started to plan a trip to Syria from the UK. Down through Italy, Greece, Turkey and on into Syria.
Recent, er 'developments' have made this trip unfeasable......
So plan B is to get as far as Turkey, and then head back through Bulgaria, Romania (friends there) and then head home again via Hungary.
My insurers - ebike - don't offer cover in Turkey, Bulgaria & Romania. Can I buy insurance at the borders of these countries??
I have endeavoured to my own research, but am currently at work on the North Sea, where time and Internet access are both fairly limited!!
I shall be travelling on a '07 GS ADV, solo, and doing some camping along the way.
Some advice regarding insurance, Visa's, etc much appreciated,
Many thanks,
GB

Insurance is certainly available to purchase for Turkey at the border. I will pass on a warning given to me, ensure you inform the broker the cover is required for a motorcycle or you will be charged for a car (a higher premium).
When are you planning to leave?

bulgaria and romania are both EU countries - so your insurer must give at least the min level of cover by law.... most phone muppets at insurance companies have no idea!!

My partner and I on separate bikes recently included a trip of the Balkan's including the coutries you mention. We found Carol Nash insurance very flexible in terms of tailoring the countries needed

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
