Parts cost/mechanics in Sweden/Denmark vs the UK
Hi all,
Drove this year from Shanghai on a YBR 125 to Europe (now in London) and am trying to figure out what to do with the bike for the winter while I store it and take a bit of a cold weather rest.
Im flying out of Copenhagen mid december and have places to store it in both southern Sweden (across the bridge from Copenhagen) and in southern England.
The bike is inevitably going to need to be tuned up when i'm back, and I already know that i'll need to be replacing tyres, chain (which ill get in the US), the rear drum brake, etc that have worn down over the last 6 months --the 125 is hurting after 30,000km.
Does anyone know of those two places which will be cheaper and more accessible? some parts I can get brought over, but others, like tyres, are a no go. Seen a couple small bikes in the UK, but not sure what northern Europe is like at all

I visited Norway a few years ago on an organised Harley trip (never again) and we called in at H-D Bergen. All the Brits were looking at the parts on display and were amazed how expensive they were compared to the UK. There were a group of Danes with us, they were stripping the shelves as the parts appeared such a bargain to them. We found out that there's a 200% luxury tax on motorcycles in Denmark. So I think you'll find Kent is the place to get your hammer out.

Google shops in the UK and Sweden to compare prices, I suspect the UK will be cheaper once you factor in labour costs, especially if you find a local garage to do the work.
BTW foreign vehicles can now only reside in the UK for 6 months before they have to be registered

All of the Scandinavian countries have a reputation for being expensive - don't know about Yamaha spares, but some parts I needed to get in Norway for my KTM were 3 times the UK price. UK labour rates are likely to be lower as well.
Unless it will cost a lot to get the bike to the UK, I would get the work done over here !

For parts, Danes and Swedes used to go to Germany. From Copenhagen it's not far....

Costs UK - Sweden
UK is better for both cost and parts availability,
Safe travels

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
