Poland - Belarus - Russia borders
Has anyone ridden across the Poland - Belarus border, then on into Russia and later exited Russia by a different route? I’m expecting to do that, but I’m concerned about the import documents for the bike. Belarus Customs ought to provide these on the Polish border, but my understanding is that there are no longer any border posts at the Belarus-Russian border because of the customs union between the two countries. That means while in Russia I’d have Belarus import docs, but no Russian ones, which could cause problems when I leave Russia. Logically [!] the Belarus docs should also cover me in Russia, but I can see it becoming a bureaucratic nightmare. I've looked at my previous Russian import docs, but they give no clue whether the same docs cover Russia and Belarus.

I have never tried to enter Russia from Belarus, but I think it will be
pretty much the same procedure like entering from Kasachstan - which
is also in a custom union with Russia.
Just make sure you get the temporary import paper from the Belarus customs (Polish - Belarus border), the Russian customs will accept this when you exit. You can´t get it on the Belarus - Russian border.

They'll give you a barcoded sticker, and put this either onto your customs declaration or a copy of your vehicle registration document (i.e. V5 for a UK registered vehicle). This is valid for 90 days (extendable) in Putin's Eurasian Union, currently Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
They may briefly check this at the Belarus - Russia border, or you may get waved straight through. Either way, nothing to worry about.
Note that Belarussian insurance is not valid in Russia, and visa-versa.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
