Stranded in Stockholm, Sweden
Hi,
I’m in Stockholm, Sweden, Saturday 25th June 22.
Where last night someone tried to steal my BMW R1150Gsa.
They’ve punched the ignition barrel out, but we’re unable to take the bike.
I’ve just ridden from uk to NordKap, and was on the way home!
I’m trying to sort out recovery with my insurance company, but a friend in Stockholm should be grateful.
My mob no 00447851290921
Regards. Nick Poole.

Assuming the barrel isn't butchered and you can insert the key it's easy to remove the barrel.
Insert a paper clip or similar in the front of the housing to depress the retaining tab. Like removing a pannier lock barrel.
Once the barrel is removed you can turn on the ignition with a flat screwdriver.
Hope you can get it sorted.

The barrel has been removed by the thief, I could use stronger words!
I’ve managed to get the ignition switch working as suggested, and headed home.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Great that you're back on the road. If it only needs a new ign barrel and the steering stops are intact I hope you can find some consolation that it could have been so much worse.
I think there should be a little grub screw sealing the access hole to the barrel's retaining tab. It's worth saving it for future use. I couldn't find a parts fiche on realoem.
Now I hope a zealous copper doesn't spot the missing ign switch.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
