XR125 Top speed? Spare the jokes on this one!

Hi All,

Bought a 2007 XR125 in the UK a few weeks ago. I'm planning to use it as a little run around myself and also to teach my boys to ride on forest trails and so on. Had the idea that a 125 might do up to 70mph at a push, at least I seem to recall with the CG125.

Drove it from Newcastle in the UK to the Ferry in Stranrare, Scotland. Had it all to do to make the ferry (180 miles) with the throttle twisted onto the stopper the whole way. 50mph was as much as I could squeeze out of it, maybe more if I was going down a hill with the wind on my back and my chin on the bars!!

I am wondering what is the expected top speed? Perhaps mine is restricted and if so how can I quickly check that it is and what is there to un-restricting it.

Maybe they are geared lower than the CG125 roadbike in order to provide more torque for off road conditions?
