xr650r big tank

Hey, Im just about to sign on the dotted line for an xr650r, and Im wanting to kit the bike out a bit more then it already is. First thing is the petrol tank, Im looking for around 25l and I know there are 3 makes that do around that, I just wanna know what you guys recon would be the best to go for. Also...the bike Im hoping to get is a 2002, from what I can see the bike hasnt really changed all that much, will the big tanks fit this model no worries?
Thanks alot.

Hi Yoashman - yes, all the tanks will fit every year, there were no changes that would affect that (and precious little else anyway, other than the odd engine seal).

Personally I would go with the Acerbis tank, not only does it looks the nicest, but the quailty is excellent and it's design helps to protect the radiators (although I understand there is also a Clark tank now that is a similar shape). It doesn't get in the way of your knees, and the seat fits with it well.

Other than replacing the fuel lines with something more substantial, I'd say it is perfect for the bike.

I agree that the Acervis 6.6Gallon is great , very strong and easy to install, the only problem with it is that the spark plug is not accessible with the tank on the bike.I also had the 4.3 gallon but the center of gravity was too high to my taste. I even hae enough room for the radiator fan I put on mine (KTM fan)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
