WA mini-meet: Esperance 19-23 April 2021
So with no WA event planned for this year around Collie (or wherever), maybe there is a NEED for some.
This will be a LoooonG mini-meet because, well Esperance is a long way and most people would probably want to make the most of it. So how we got to these dates: - school holidays end 18/4/21
- we're assuming most people from Perth surrounds and south west would probably take two days to ride down, so that gives them the weekend to ride down and the following weekend to ride back up.
- RAC caravan park (central in town and on the beach) closes 1/5/21 for renovations and they are chockers over easter weekend and right after
So what's on the cards: - being a mini-meet, very informal and no entry fee or registration etc.
- we will have a few talks at night and see if we can round up some interesting things to discuss. People are welcome to send me topics they would like to see covered if they want
- some informal sand-riding training in the dunes (or just some fun if you're proficient) - IMO the best place to learn to ride sand is here, where there's nothing to hit and the scenery is great
- guided tours to some of the better spots, such as a ride along the beach to Cape le Grande (22km of bliss), Bay Of New Orleans etc.
- a few days in Esperance, and then an option of a longer (hard-yakka) ride to Israelite bay (supported, so people don;t have to do the sand with luggage if they don't want to)
- easier option of camping out at Lucky Bay, snorkeling with the leafy sea-dragons at sundown and cuddling the beach kangaroos.
- daytrip to Mount Ridley to see the hollow rocks, wave rock and aboriginal rock art
- visit Stonehenge - 1:1 replica and all intact
- day trip to Mount Arid for the fitter riders - includes 50km+ of beach riding and some sand tracks
So there's also lots of options for routes down and up, e.g. via Balladonia road and homesteads, telegraph track, Fitzgerald NP etc. Opportune time to explore out backroads.
So once I've figured out how to do a poll, we can talk about options - e.g. perhaps people would rather just do Lucky Bay than RAC in Esperance etc. But just chucking this out there for people to diarise.
Will also have a few prizes for people who attend. I will update post as we get more information, but so far: - Squily's Moto offered a gift voucher for a free minor service (oil & filter & check-over) plus additional 20% off if person wants to upgrade to a major service, e.g. valve clearances, spark plugs etc. and any parts needed. This prize is transferable to another rider and valid for 24 months. It is not cash-redeemable.
- Squily's Moto offered 10% off any orders or purchases for equipment, parts, servicing to attendees.

I'm up for the social side of this, John.
Probs won't join in the sand dune bashing cos I'm not that clever!
Cheers, Alun Hughes.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
