Question
Hey all, I have never attended any of the HU events and recently got back into riding after about a 6 year break. I am living here in Germany currently and saw this posting for the meeting in May. I see from the forum that most of the post are in English, but what about the classes and presentations at the meeting? I am from the US living here temporarily and unfortunately have learned very little German. It seems like it would be fun to meet people with similar interests and experiences.
Thanks

I have only attended HU meetings in the US so far. This will also be my first German meeting. I don't think you will encounter any language barriers. From what I can see so far, most people speak or understand English.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

Re: 10th HU Germany Meeting Spring 2013 - Welcome!(17.5.-20.5.2013)
I'm polish living in Germany but my language of choice is still English. Never had any problems communicating in this language at German HU meetings. Cheers, Greg

We're very pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 10th Horizons Unlimited Germany meeting, to be held May 17 - 20, 2013! Thanks for your patience while we updated the page to our new design!
http://www.HorizonsUnlimited.com/events/germany-2013
HU Travellers meetings are for everyone who dreams of adventure along the road less travelled! There are no bands and no wild parties, but we do have great people and interesting bikes - and fantastic stories about travelling to interesting places, plus tech seminars on everything from tire changing to GPS usage to packing lists. For a taster of HU meetings, see the video here:
Events | Horizons Unlimited
Thanks for anything you can do to help spread the word about the event. There is a poster (German and English versions) that you can print off and hand around to local venues and bike shops too!
German:

English:

Volunteers to help out and Present also wanted!
As we count down the days, you can get the latest event updates by subscribing to this thread, (thread tools, subscribe) or 'Liking' the Horizons page on Facebook.

Not sure if we will still be in Europe on that date. What are the chances of registering just before the event and finding a place to stay? We don't have our camping gear here so we'd need some sort of bed and roof.

We are registered! Yippeh!
But we were not able to secure accommodation at http://www.zur-schneeburg.de/. They told us to have a look around in the area. Bummer. We are not into camping. We don't need anything fancy. But we are not into camping. A simple cabin will do.
If anyone can point us into the right direction, it is very much appreciated.

Der Watzenhof - details on the Meeting page - is not too far, maybe 5 minutes on bike and is ok. We've stayed there ourselves. Also a look at the map says there are several towns nearby, Klein Breitenbach the biggest and they have several options, and even closer than Der Watzenhof.

Youth hostel in Heppenheim
Hi guys,
there is a youth hostel in Heppenheim, maybe 15-20 min. away.
Deutsche Jugendherberge, here the link below:
Gemeinschaft erleben | DJH Jugendherbergen in Deutschland - Jetzt online buchen
64646 Heppenheim
Maybe the cheapest place nearby...
But Camping is great near the fireplace - and the warm apple wine is fun!
See you in Germany - Jens

Slide Shows and Workshops needed!
Hi guys,
Slide Shows:
I know you travel all over the world and you have tons of pictures at home...
Now it is the time to give your first speech to all of us - we want to hear your stories! It doesn´t have to be a perfect Power Point Presentation... just bring your pictures - we have a Computer, Beamer, etc. on the Spot.
If you want you can bring your own laptop of course, we also have Speakers if you need them - welcome!
Workshops:
If you have some good ideas how to arrange a interesting workshop - please feel free to do so. Here some examples:
- Cooking along the road
- How to write a Blog?
- How to fix flat tyres?
- Which tent is the best? Sleeping Bag etc...?
- Which medicine should I take?
- Which riding gear?
- Photo workshop
- Are there only BMWs... why?
-Which bike to take?
Etc...
Enough Ideas? So please register as a presenter if you have a good idea!
See you in May 2013 - Jens

Slide Shows and Workshops needed!
Hi guys, hi Jens
Sorry, no slideshow to offer, but one more proposal for a workshop/discussion round:
Buy and register bikes in foreign countries (instead of shipping your own):
Where is it possible, what bikes are available?? ...
Do you think there any interest an a workshop like this? Anybody who wants to share his experience? Someone else keen on this topic?
Cheers
Jörn (looking forward to the summer meeting)

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
