18th HU Germany meeting 25-28 May, 2017!
We have great news as you contemplate winter! The HU Germany Summer meeting will be held 25-28 May, 2017. Great location in a fantastic riding area - Campingplatz Pfrimmtal - 35 km west of the Rhine river, about 50 km south of Mainz, just at the entrance of one of the best riding areas of Germany - the Pfälzer Wald! A proper campground with great facilities - even showers! Jens Ruprecht is hosting this event. Mark your calendars, online registration is open now, with super early bird rates until Jan 31, 2017!

HU Germany event - Language problems?
Hi, I am very interested in attending this event next May. However I will be travelling on my own and do not speak ANY German! So, to help me plan my trip can anyone out there who has attended a previous HU Germany event please help me by estimating what percentage of the talks / films are normally held in German, and what percentage of the attendees speak English?
With many thanks in advance,
Mark

Lots of folks speak English, and many presentations are in English.
This event is very international, with travellers from all over Europe. Presentations are either in German or English, but there will be folks who can translate for you. And I can promise you will get a warm welcome from our local organizer, Jens Ruprecht, who speaks fluent English!

Mark, I'm a Brit living in Germany, I've been to the last two of the DE events. I'd say that English is, in fact, the primary language for this event. Most presentations have been in English and only about half of the attendees are actually German - there has been a significant UK contingent both times I've been, plenty of folks from other non German speaking nations as well. We're lucky enough to speak the universal language, almost everyone there will speak some level of English - most perfectly fluently. You'll have nothing to worry about, you'll have no trouble communicating and I promise you'll have a great time, don't hesitate to sign up!
Sadly I'll be missing this one myself as I'll already be in Spain for the HUMM. If you have a good time at the German Summer meeting come back for Autumn, I plan to do a presentation on HUMM!

Thanks Guys
Thanks Susan, Arma and Mud-Plug, I really appreciate your replies and thanks for the help.
I'm already booked into the 2017 HUBB UK event at Hay, and am trying to work out if I can also fit the HU Germany meeting in this year as well.
For a friend and I are due to be in Germany the weekend before, when we will be attending the Oberschlesen 8 hour race. I'm now thinking that perhaps I can stay on in Europe for a few extra days (perhaps popping across the border to the Czech Republic for a few days) and then attending this event before returning home to the UK again.
Given that HU events are all about meeting people and chatting with them over a or around the camp fire (as well of course as listening to the talks and films) I just wanted to make sure that I'd be able to get the most from the event. From what you guys say it certainly looks like I will be able to do that. Now all I need to do is see if I can rearrange my diary so that I can attend.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
