That's good news! Hope it works out. Great landscape indeed. I'd be interested to come. A delegation of the Bavarian Huns
I couldn't find Mariovo in Google maps. If I remember correctly it is in the vicinity of Bitola - some 50 to 100 kays east into the mountains?
Anticipation

Actually, the area Mariovo is devided in 3 municipalities, Kavadarci, Prilep and Bitola. It was the only part of Macedonia which stayed out of reach from the Ottoman Empire, thanks to the beautiful girl Maria, who gave her life for that (very interesting story, if you come, you'll learn about it).
The place we are preparing is under the municipality Prilep, near the village Vitolište (you can find it on viamichelin.com, type Vitoliste as destination), and its ca. 40 km. south-east from Prilep.
The area it self is very picturesque, beautiful rocks that reach out from the arable land, wealthy with old domestic fires, God sanctuaries and temples, archological and historical sites, the canyon of Crna reka (Black river)...
Anyhow, If I tell you that I have been there at least a couple of dosen times, and every time is more interesting than the previous...
If Mother Nature was to create a landscape aspeccially for motorcycle riding, on and off road, believe me, it would be Mariovo... if you don't believe me, come for your self and see...

Yep, I found Vitoliste on my Macedonia map. I agree, that's glorious enduro area!
Last spring I had intended to visit Konopiste, because there are supposed to be some interesting rock formations. Unfortunately I got lost on some very small backroads But I still enjoyed the ride and just camped in the bush

Hello,
Don't know if meeting is still valid and open to anyone? !
After reading the words about Ottomans kept out from the place, I wondered if I may go in or not!
Don't know the story of Maria but guess if another Maria will say welcome to keep me away
Anyhow, would like to join if everything goes well...
Will need certain place and longitude/latitude to meet .
Regards,
Samy

Hi Samy,
south-east of Prilep there is a place called Vitoliste (roughly N41 14.869 E21 52.047). That's where the meeting is supposed to tale place.
Regarding Maria - I don't know the story either, but there might be some beautiful Marias around We should go and do some bird-watching

Hallo Hans,
We will see there only well packaged motorcyclists with boots, riding trousers, helmets, riding gloves, etc.
Anyhow dreaming is good sometimes.
But I wonder the word of: "ecologically cleanest area of Macedonia". Does it mean very clean forest ?
Cheers,
Samy

Hi everyone, sorry for my late reply, but I had some obligations...
Anyhow, if Grant agrees, we can make the meeting, we will have a trial one (just local) now in the first weekend of June, just to make sure we can do it and arrange everything.
Someone mentioned that Sept. is full, so I can also accept another date, any suggestions?
I promiss I'll be more present from now on, so tell me what you think?

Its a shame that September is full, late August would be good for me, I think October may be a little cool riding over the alps.

Hi Simon,
The Moto Tour Mariovo is not like a HU meeting, but it has a similar character.
There is no loud rock music, no engine and tire burning and geting drunk. Quite oposit, the atmosfere is relaxed, there is a cultural program with repertoar of old macedonian folk songs, educational motorcycle games like gympkana, conversation beside camp fire... etc...
The HU Meeting in Macedonia has to be arranged and aproved first. The date is still open for discussion, so we will see... I hope that soon I'll have more details about it...
Cheers !

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
