Anyone leaving from NorCal
I just got a GS a couple of weeks ago. Love the bike. Came across this site today while at work. I know it's probably too little too late but I was wondering if anyone is leaving from Northern California that knows what they're doing. I'd like to go if possible, however I understand this is a trip the requires proper planning and won't go if I can't get prepared in what little time is left. Any help appreciated.

Glad you found the site, and not a second to late!
I say roll on down, I'm leaving from El Lay on the 11 or 12 and crossing at Nogales or Douglas. maybe we can hook up.
Last year I bought a bike, rode it the 600 miles to break it in, then rode to Creel. Still having a blast after 16k miles.

Thanks guys, I'll check into the finance company. It's financed through BMW. You'd think they'd be use to this type of question.

Other than the papers as noted above by JSherm, there really isn't much prep needed. Lots of people going, and you'll find it's really all quite easy.
Read the meeting page, especially on the border crossing info, get your camping gear together and "roll on down"!
Note new info-link on border crossing, htere's all you really need to know right there - the rest is no harder than going to another state.
See you there!

BMW Finance will fedex a letter to you as soon as you fax them a copy of your mexican insurance policy.
They will usually only let you take in mexico for one month.

Thanks guys, this site is awesome! I have one contact right now that's going to Mexico. He's not sure if it's going to work out at the moment. Anyone else going? Don't really want to do it alone.

See the Coppper Canyon 2004 thread - loads of people hooking up along the way.
I'm crossing at El Paso possibly 12th or very early on the 13th.

Hi,
I am from San Jose, CA and planning to cross the border at Nogales on 11th. I am hoping to find other riders at the Nogales and ride down to the Copper Canyon. Could you share your border crossing schedule ?
Thanks in advance,
Taka S.

Norcal.... you might check w/ BMW sooner than later. I know that some finance companies won't allow you to take a bike out of the country unless you have a 12-month history or payments. I hope that BMW isn't one of these companies. Good luck/see you there.

I will be heading down from Madera on the 12th, even though I live in San Leandro. Looking forward to hooking up with folk. Never been to Creel or that area before. Have done Baja a couple times, though.
