Calgary Camp
An open invitation to all travelers with a story to tell or an ear to listen. I am hosting a camp in the Springbank area of Calgary.
Sept 25th (4pm) , 2010 - First annual (?) Calgary HU BYO everything, Meeting and Camp.
Didn’t make it to the Nakusp meeting? Or perhaps you did and just don’t want to give up on summer?!
An evening and morning of hanging out and getting to know some fellow travelers:
Located on a very special farm just outside Calgary city limits in Springbank. On a piece of property of over 2000 acres I will be hosting a camp for everyone that would like to attend. Located in the forest with the Elbow River just a couple minutes walk away I have a site available that I am sure will not disappoint any travelers that would like to attend. Ok, there won’t be any presentations but I can offer a firepitt, firewood, plenty of room for camping with a rustic outhouse and should the weather turn inclement we have a couple buildings that we can gather in for shelter.
Cooking options:
n Campfire
n your own stove
n I will provide a BBQ with charcoal
n An ice chest for your “refreshments”.
You can camp in the shade of the trees (it will be nice by the time Sept comes around right?!) or out in the open. There is room for Frisbee so bring the kids, or the kid in you. As I am sure that it will be a hot weekend you may want a quick dip in the river.
Directions:
On the west side of Calgary, South west of Lower Springbank Rd and on the North side of the Elbow River (the south side of the river has Elbow Valley Estates and Stonepine). Follow either Horizon View Rd or 17th Ave SW this becomes Township RD 242 (past Eden Brook Memorial Gardens) and into Colpitts Ranches on a gravel road. Once in the river valley and at the farm site, follow signs that will take you past the old Dairy Barn (largest building) and across the pasture into the treed area where the river and the Old Girl Scouts (Batuk) camp is located.
GPS : 51 - 01’ 35.96”N , 114 - 16’ 20.69W
Suggested schedule: arrive in the afternoon (I am working until 4pm) on the 25th and depart mid-day or so Sunday the 26th.

Sounds like a good way to wind the summer down!
If the forecast is good I'll come along......I'm only coming from Canmore anyway!
Kindest regards

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
