Canada West 2018 Travellers Meeting Aug 23-26
The 17th Horizons Unlimited Canada West Travellers Meeting will be in Nakusp, BC from Aug 23-26, 2018. Super riding in the area and a very friendly town on a lovely lake.
Mark and Leslie Kuzminski, Ekke Kok and Audrey Allenspach-Kok (back from their travels with stories to tell) are our local hosts for this event!
Join us for a few days of great camaraderie, good food, terrific presentations, and a community of people who don't think you're crazy for wanting to ride to the middle of nowhere.
Registration is open now with early bird rates, so mark your calendars and plan to be there! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/events/canwest-2018
Tentative schedules and presenter lists will be posted on the HU Canada West page, and we'll be adding more as you volunteer to talk about your latest or greatest trip! Remember, we always need practical how-to sessions as well. Start here to register as a presenter:
Online Registration for Adventure Travel Presenters
We'll be there, hope to see you there!

Just checking in to say hello, and to let you all know that in August I'll be in the middle of my big North American ride on a new BMW G310GS this year!
I'm scheduled to present my brand new 'Northern eXposure' AV video/slide show (featuring highlights of my cross-country US and Canadian trip onboard my CB500X during the summer of 2017), plus a more practical Q&A style seminar with regard to 'packing light' for an indefinite period travelling both on and off the road.
I'll also have racked up plenty of miles on the baby GS by then, and would be more than happy to share those experiences with you too!
Looking forward to it!
Jenny (and piglet of course) x

Volunteer needed ?
Hi,
I'm French and I was at the HU meeting last summer in California but I'm living in BC, Canada.
I'm a new motorcycle tour guide and I'm trying to gather as many experiences as possible in the motorcycle world to start my career..
I'm working in tourism for several years, more precisely in the event industry and I was thinking of offering my help to this event in Nakusp.
Do you know if they would need help, at least for the set up ?
Sorry if it's OFF TOPIC.. I couldn't find the application form on the website
Merci !
Ben

First Time Attendee
I am well into my planning to make this trip! I'm riding from Colorado and taking 2 weeks for the round trip and event to be sure I have time to explore the sights in the West Kootenays. I am planning to ride as much of the Continental Divide Trail as I can on the way up. Looking forward to the event!

Looking to head out from Minneapolis next week (will be my first HU meet up). How are the fires/smoke? I know I have heard a lot about the amount of smoke in the air.
Thanks! Hope to see everyone soon!

Nakusp 2018
I attended the 2018 meeting and really enjoyed myself, this is the 3rd one I've been to in the last 4 years.
The big question for me was how bad was the smoke going to be while riding there and how bad would it be at the event.
Well it wasn't too bad driving from Vancouver, other than a few short sections where it was quite thick, overall no problems, at the event it was about the same as in Vancouver when I left, very hazy but not unbearable when outside.
The presenters were awesome, we even had a Canadian stand up comic (Daryl Makk) who was very funny and many excellent female presenters, Megan, Rosie, Krista and Jenny Morgan to name a few.
What a great place to meet other travelers and after a few days hanging out with them feels like I've known them for years, and not to mention catching up with old friends as well..
I really enjoyed the hands on workshops including bike ergo's and mods with Grant Johnson and modifying your motorcycle seat with Herman Kovacs.
One news item of note was the change in dates for next year to early July to avoid the wild fire season and hopefully there will be no fire ban and allow us to have an evening fire of our own. (stay tuned for details on this)
Thanks to Grant and Susan for their tireless efforts and to the hosts, Ekke and Audrey for an amazing event.
See you next year.
David

Another great HUBB weekend - despite the poor visibility due to all the smoke this year!
Got back to San Jose last night after an epic ride on and off-road through Washington, Oregon and Northern California this past week - we are truly blessed on this side of the country!
Thanks to everyone involved this year, and to my camp-mates who made every day such fun!
photo (by Eric). We were all inspired by Rosie's yoga photos the evening before! ;o)
Til the next one amigos!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
