HU Maritimes Meeting at Annapolis Royal, NS, July 4-6, 2014
Canada Maritimes 2014 Registration is now officially open!
We're very pleased to announce that the 1st HU Canada Maritimes Travellers Meeting will be held July 4-6, 2014 in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia.
Thanks to the efforts of Craig Cairns, Philip White and Clarence Tidd, we have a great venue at the 74th Crusaders Club House, on the banks of the Annapolis River, with open fields and Clubhouse Facilities. Annapolis Royal is the birthplace of Canada and features many historical landmarks.
There's loads of excellent back roads and off-road riding in the area for you to enjoy two planned rides, as well as loads of presentations and demos; something for everyone!
Thanks for anything you can do to help spread the word about the event. There is a poster that you can print off and hand around to local venues and bike shops too:

As we count down the days, you can get the latest event updates by subscribing to this thread, (thread tools, subscribe) or visiting the Facebook event page.
Feel free to discuss the event on this thread or on the Facebook event page!

Maritimes - Riding companion from US east coast
Hello everyone
I am planning a return to the Canadian Maritimes, after a life-changing trip there ten years ago, and hope to catch my first HU Meeting in the process. I'll be leaving from Maryland and either hitting the Portland ferry (if it's running by then!) or continuing up north and entering NS by land. Would love to know if anyone else in my area is heading up as well.
Best,
Sean

Riding north
Hi Sean,
I'll be riding from northern New Jersey to hang out with Philip and present stories from Central and South America. Another presenter will be riding north from Boston.
The ferry is a maybe, but 9 hours on the water doesn't sound that appealing to me. There is another ferry in Canada that is cheaper and takes less sea time.
Let's talk as the date gets closer and compare travel plans. I was planning to make it a two day ride each way.

Riding north
Sounds great, Peter. I agree - time on a ferry is time off the bike. I am pretty flexible with timing since the rest of the trip to Newfoundland and the Trans-Labrador will be arranged around the HU meeting; that's my priority in so far as a specific event along the route.
Look forward to talking more as the time nears.
Best,
Sean

If you fellows choose not to take the Portland - Yarmouth ferry (which I believe is going to be a night crossing) the other option is the Saint John - Digby route OR to plot a run that takes you on a Bay of Fundy Coastal Route through Parrsboro and the Noël Shore. There is some great scenery there that would be a shame to miss!
If you're looking for some routing advice, Id be happy to help!

I'm planning on coming from Ontario and was wondering if anyone had info on the Saint John - Digby ferry times and frequencies from 2013. I have looked on the web site but no schedule has been posted for 2014 yet. Thanks in advance.

I'll send you a PM when the Schedule is posted - I'm working in Digby on Monday, so I'll try to get down to the terminal and see when it will be available.

I'll be solo riding from Worcester Massachusetts and presenting at the event. Have not plotted my route but will surely look at your recommendations. The Saint John to Digby looks like fun.

Ferry Info
Wish I had the time to ride around the Bay of Fundy. Looks like I'll be taking the ferry.
The St. John - Digby ferry schedule can be found here:
Nova Scotia to New Brunswick Ferry Schedules & Fares: Bay Ferries
During peak season, two trips per day leaving St. John:
12:00 (12:00 PM noon) Everyday
23:00 (11:00 PM) Monday - Friday / Saturday and Sunday 20:00 (8:00 PM)
Two trip per day leaving Digby:
8:00 (8:00 AM)
16:00 (4:00 PM)
There is a $10 discount if you book a round trip. Trying for figure out if the fuel surcharge applies...probably does.
Don't know if advanced reservations are recommended. There is usually always room to squeeze motorcycles on a ferry.
For those coming from the US, leave time to cross the border and make sure your passport is up to date. I understand that if you have a DWI on your record, you will be turned back. It happened to a friend of mine.

Ferry
Yikes. I just looked and saw what the ferry from Portland would cost me. $350 one way. A, maybe I will be riding through Maine as well.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
