Here's hoping the weather is better this year! One thing for sure, it can't possibly be any wetter than last year.
I'm looking forward to attending this year's event and can't wait to see the list of presenters fill out. Thanks in advance to the whole team for all your hard work. See you in April!

I'm a first timer, heading there from Memphis. Trying to get my Michigan friends to meet me for the event. Looking forward to it!

Any off-pavement rides Fri or Sat?
Hi, are any of the rides on Friday or Saturday off-pavement? I'm riding down from the DC area and trying to decide which bike to bring (1250RT or 1200GS).

Here's who's presenting at HU Virginia 2024, 25-28 April
Hey folks,
It's Friday and we're a couple of weeks out from HU Virginia! If you haven't kept an eye on the presentations rolling in, then quickly, you can check out ALL the latest sessions on the web page here:
https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ev...-2024#schedule
Would it be redundant to post everything here?
Here are a few to whet your adv appetite and start planning your route to HU Virginia.
First up: ADVENTURE DISCUSSION PANEL with Q&A
Sam Manicom, Emy and David Woodburn, and Melanie and Greg Turp are addressing all things adventure and beyond. Some of the best times are real talks about real adventure stuff, conversation-style.
Don't miss their individual presentations, too.
Melanie and Greg Turp remember hearing elephants and even lions outside their tent while in South Africa. And a storyline no one ever gets tired of hearing: how and why they decided to take off and travel the world, through almost 70 countries on six continents. Words of wisdom: "Don't let life get in the way of living your life. Tomorrow may never come. Make the choice to travel, and go." Word!
Greg's also giving an informational intro to the Accident Scene Management / Road Guardians training program. (It's an info session, not the actual 7-h training.)
Emy and David Woodburn recount the time when, so very far from home, theft, damages, injuries, and illnesses washed over them like waves. Then there's warmth, hospitality, and general courtesy of strangers among hardscrabble lands in the Middle East during the '90s (Baluchistan, Pakistan, Türkiye, Israel, and Egypt). You'll be mesmerized.
David is also leading a couple of essential workshops with Charles Pearce about all things tires and general motorcycle maintenance. What's the point of adventure if your steed isn't getting the TLC it deserves?
Sam Manicom turns the reality of adventures in Vietnam into the stuff of travel fantasy with a look into its phenomenal history and time-defying beauty. Sam also brings the fantasy of getting published into practical reality with "a bunch of ideas that will help you to produce great articles" that can attract magazines' interest in publishing them.
Shall I go on?

#HUVirginia 2024 Presenter: MARC CHARTRAND (Trans-Quebec Trail)
Marc Chartrand is hailing all adventure motorcycle enthusiasts! Brace yourself for the Trans-Quebec Trail, a 5000-mile adventure route north of the 49th parallel. Discover some of Quebec's awe-inspiring wilderness and its hidden gems as you explore diverse terrain, from remote forests to majestic mountains to stunning maritime views.
Marc is the Project Manager of the Trans Quebec Trail efforts and the Regional Ambassador for the Basses-Laurentides Montérégie area.
P.S. Not to be confused with the upcoming inaugural HU Quebec, 17-19 May, 2024 in Lachute, Quebec, Canada (in partnership with La Classique Motofest and RideAdventure.ca)! Yes, we have a fresh HU 4 U this year.

#HUVirginia 2024 Presenters: AMY and KEVIN EDWARDS (EVs 101)
Amy and Kevin Edwards bring you the amps and ohms of electric vehicles (EVs) 101, including motorcycles. Kevin was the first to complete the Trans-America Trail on a commuter electric motorcycle that was modified for faster charging. It became a shockingly suitable adventuring machine. The same trip is now doable with a stock electric ADV bike.
Let me guess. How and where did Kevin recharge the bike in remote areas? You're going to have to ask him... when you get to HU Virginia! We already know motorcycles are fuel-efficient dragons on wheels, but what are your thoughts about going gasless? Worth it? Doable? Adventurable?
Sign up today and enjoy this fabulous weekend with friends.

#HUVirginia 2024 Presenter: MOLLY HARRISON (Riding solo through Mexico and Baja)
Molly Harrison knows road-tripping through Mexico is easier, closer, cheaper, and more fun than you think. She gives a tiny glimpse of our amazing neighbor to the south- and celebrates the trials and trails, the food and drinks, the warmth and magic of solo travel. She'll give some fun intel on the Baja 1000, as well as the Baja ferry between Mexico and La Frontera. Be warned, you'll be planning your ride to Mexico soon!

#HUVirginia Presenter: ALEX REPONEN (The Spy Who Loved to Bake)
Alex Reponen is a motobaker who combines his passions for baking and motorcycle travel. The delicious art and science of baking will be on display (and possibly a tasting) at the event. Check out his rugged vs. upscale set-ups for baking while on the road... a full frontal, so to speak, of his adventure oven which has baked some yummy things at the event last year. There are a few give-aways if you're seriously inspired to become an ADV foodie.
Ok, folks, it's Friday evening here in beautiful BC which is the home of HU. Head over to the HU Virginia web page for the FULL presenter listing, 'kay? Cheers and get out there this weekend!

Daily schedule?
Grant, Steve et al. When and where should we expect to see the daily schedule of presentations? Last year I arrived to learn I was on 30mins after arriving, and would loooove just a touch more advance notice if possible! Looking forward to it! Thanks all!

Hi Jim!
There will be off-road training on Friday and on Saturday by Tom Asher with off-road rides as part of the training. The training requires additional registration (see the HU VA web page for the details), and we do have a few spots left.
If you don't want to do the training, there are ample trails throughout the state forest where the 4-H camp is located. There won't be led rides, but you can certainly find some dirt -)

Hi Alex!
We're finalizing the schedule now and should have it posted within a few days. We've got you tentatively set for Friday morning at 11 am and Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm in the pavilion. How's that sound?

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
