Natalia Muñoz and Chinzorig Chuluunbaatar of Drive Mongolia will again host the event, and it's going to be a terrific, truly multi-national event, with local Mongolian travellers, and many from China and Russia as well as travellers passing through. It's going to be a lot of fun, inspiration and connections with travellers.

I will be in Europe during the time the Mongolia event is going on. would like to try to make it but have one little question..... how long Days would it take to ride across Russia and Mongolia to make it to the event? applying for a Russia tourist visa for my trip and wondering if i would have to apply for multiple do to travel time? also what would be the average mile one would be traveling in a day, as i understand the roads are almost non existent. any help would be greatly appreciate. thanks

That's a REALLY hard question to answer, it depends entirely on you, and what you're riding, and your experience at long hard days in the saddle. I would look in the Northern Asia forum for discussions on crossing Russia, and see what the general consensus is.
According to google maps, it's 8785 km from Paris to UlaanBataar, and 109 hours driving (at the posted speed limit). If you're a superman, you can probably do it in 10 days easy. Us mere mortals might want to take a little longer. The roads across Russia are NOT good!

Heya Grant, Susan et all
I am planning my trip to be at the Mongolia meeting, I am in the depths of Russia at present.
Grant and Susan I hope you don't mind I have a long shot question, I have a 1 month old FT-6 Panasonic that "The Old Summer Road" claimed the LCD screen on so now I cannot see what picture I am taking and cannot use any modes.
In my long shot question is anyone coming from Canada or USA that can bring a replacement camera?
In the USA etc it is called a TS-6, I am happy to paypal upfront if someone can help.
Either way unless I become Grizzly Bear lunch I will see everyone at the Mongolia Meeting.
Many thanks, Andi

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
