Just call me Cheeky Bastard.

Would any Brighton Hubber be able to provide me with a small space to lay my head on Friday night, and maybe Sat night?

I am getting a ferry from Portsmouth on the Sat or Sun, so wondered if anyone local could put me up.

I am housetrained and mix well with others.

Thanks,

Birdy.

There's lots to grasp when you first start overlanding apart from the mechs there is lots of paperwork. I've got a few overland bits and bobs that someone might be interested in looking at: carnet de passage; COMESA yellow card; african road atlas; digital t4a maps etc. etc...

Shout if anyone wants me to bring them along.

Birdy - dont look like your getting that offer of a bed for the night, so just to help I will speak up for birdy (and I am sure all the northern and scottish section will agree) - he is a great lad and a little help from fellow HU members would be great for him (and his budget) and I would have no problem putting him up for a few nights (or is that putting up with him for a few nights) - as he is setting off to africa from your meet I hope someone helps him out.
Birdy wishing you good luck on your travels have a great run and hope to meet up with you somewhere - someplace. Jake - and all of the northern HU section.

Birdy,

I sadly can not put you up, but I'd be glad to chip in towards a place to stay for the night to ensure your final send off is nice and easy, not killing all your cash.

I know there are a couple of back packers in town, here a link to one place that has two different building. They say it's from £15 a night, so I'll happily cover £15 for Friday night, if you have no joy with a bed for the night elsewhere:

The Grapevine Hotel Brighton - Stag and Hen Night accommodation for Brighton and Hove, UK

See you Friday.

Iain.

Thanks very much Linzi and Iain for your very kind offers, it is awesome to see the lengths fellow Hubbers will go to for you.

And Jake, thanks for the positive review, it is much appreciated, would be great to see you on the road sometime. I promise I won't snore as badly as I did on the second night at Tan Hill.

As for where I am staying, I couldn't expect anyone to put cash up for a hostel, despite it being a very considerate offer. Last time in Brighton I remember a lovely sleep under the pier, maybe I will do the same thing again?

I look forward to the meet, it is always good to see Hubbers. My little Cub will be purring outside by opening time.

Thanks all,

Birdy

PS, There's a in for both Linzi and Iain for being such lovely people.

Does the mini meet

extend to Land Rover owners preparing for an overland trip? I am the owner of a Tengai/KLR 1989 650, but am heading off down the west coast of Africa as soon as the carnet arrives in my 1998 110 Defender - within in the next two weeks, I hope...I've been rather urbanized in Beijing for three years, so I am also pretty poor at communicating with people who have not lived in smog and concrete for any period of time (London does not count). Forgive me if I turn up and just grunt but I'll listen intently to any useful tips. Oscarreg

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
