Ok look at it this way
2 days camping at a campsite around maybe 40 quid at a proper campsite
a movie for 2 adults 1 child 20 quid a shot at a cinema.
A meal out at a branded restraunt easily 40 quid for 3 people, alot more if you eat somewhere nice.
A takeaway again would be around 40 quid for 3 people and thats before booze.
A dvd on the sofa with and food again easily 30-40 quid.
We were 60 quid just to see some soggy animals at the highland safari park and Im sure the ones that attend the hubbmeeting are way more interesting, just not as cute.

So compared to other things its not that expensive, I could easily spend that on a night on the town without food, and thats not even high end clubbing more if I went to a gig.

What a sad reminder to how we're all used to getting totally bummed in the U.K..

I could party for a fortnight for £45. Home brew, home cooked food and good company. I could party for a month in the 3rd world for that.. lol

FYI, I have no objection to the HU meeting pricing as I've always paid it and supported the forum it's just a bit too much this year with fuel costs, gate entrance etc. I've only just got back from Africa and I'm a cheap arse

There's a recession on ya know

It's because of the recession that I'm going to this years meet again - I can't afford a trip abroad this year and I need my adventure fix, even if I have to get it from 3rd party stories! At previous meets, we got snacks at the meet and the main meal & booze from the village (empty panniers can hold plenty of tinnies).
I'm going just to soak up the atmosphere of like minded people

New to Horizons Unlimited?

New to motorcycle travelling? New to the HU site? Confused? Too many options? It's really very simple - just 4 easy steps!

Horizons Unlimited was founded in 1997 by Grant and Susan Johnson following their journey around the world on a BMW R80G/S.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
