Our first trip was in late May 2005 on a TKC80 shod Touratech equipped BMW R1150GSA and was only six days in Iceland..........Arrived in Seydisfjordur on the ferry with only two other bikes and thought WTF it was like the land that time forgot............Snow everywhere and me with my missus on the back on her first 'proper' tour with full camping gear!
Decided to ride the Ringroad anti-clockwise and after riding from Seydisfjordur over the high and very snowy pass to Egillstasdir then on to Dettifoss and Lake Myrvatn camping at Skutustadir pseudo volcanoes after a very long days riding and very low on fuel on the run in to Reykjalid. A very frozen tent in the morning and two bowls of Oat So Simple porridge to warm me up............The missus thought I'd made a dreadful smell in the toilets before realising that the water really smells sulphurous in some places in Iceland.
On to Godafoss and Akureyri then camped at Akranes before the delights of Reykjavik, The Blue Lagoon and a wee trip out to the airport to see where I'd been before and then a wee tour of Reykjanes before camping in Reykjavik.
Next day was a ride down to Hveragerdi, Selfoss, Hella and Hvolsvollur before camping at the beautiful Seljallandsfoss campsite right next to a hidden gem of a waterfall.
Next day on to Skogarfoss, Vik, Kirkjubaerklauster, Skaftafell, The old farm at Nuppstadir and Jokullsarlon before camping at Hofn.
Next was on to Djupavoggsreppur and Djupavik before on to the Campsite at Seydisfjordur and another days touring the Eastfjords before the ferry to the Faroes, Shetland and home(three days each way with a combination of Smyril Line and Northlink
We had a fantastic short trip but it was a great taster and we just keep going back!!
