A good buy?
Hi, I don't know much about KLRs but they look like the ideal bike to take RTW. I have been offered one for £535. It has no MOT and the guy says all it will need a new rear shocker and rear master cylinder. It is a KLR650 A2 - has covered 35 000 miles and apparently been well looked after and serviced regularly. So.....does it sound like a good buy or not?! Is a 35k KLR gonna be much passed its best?

Me too! Sorry can't really answer your question but I would like to know the answer and would like to know if it's a good bike for a beginner to strip and rebuild? I reckon you've got to learn somewhere?

I would say if you are going to moto the world, get one with less miles.

...based on what ? If it's been well maintained and had the oil regularly changed it could be a lot better than something that has been badly maintained with just 5k miles..... do you have some first hand KLR experience perhaps that you can share ? I've got a bike with over 100,000km on it ( not a KLR for the record) and I wouldn't swap it for a bikes with less Km if you paid me.......

Klr
I owned one of these machines a few years back now, it had more miles on it than the one you are considering, but its basic, cheap to fix and does what it says on the tin. I wouldn't worry about the mileage, mine went for years with just a basic service when I felt like it

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
