Aftermarket exhausts

Hi All,

Im toying with the idea of fitting an aftermarket exhaust on my 2006 kle500.

Has any of you done the same, did it make any difference?.

Ive changed systems on previous sports bikes ive had with some success but im a bit unsure if there will be any benefit with the kle.

your thoughts.

aftermarket exhaust for kle 500

Just bought two new exhausts for our bikes, sounds far more throaty and lost quite a bit of weight, also seems to have loosened the engine up a bit on accelleration to about 80 mph not much difference after about 90mph. Fairly expensive and not sure if it actually worth it, but it sounds good. Go to the Staintune website and click on uk suppliers Ride safe. Ash

You could also look at Predator exhausts - they will have a website I guess.
They make exhausts in stainless steel for a whole range of bikes.
I talked with them at their BMF stand last May and they seemed to be quite helpful - I didn't end up buying anything, but only because I sold the bike instead!

Ash & Deb,

Was it just the end can you bought or the full system, I cant seem to tell by the web site.

I know laser do the full system (headers and can) all in stainless steel for £300 or £350 with the road legal end can.

Is the catalist in the header pipes or the end can on the original KLE system?

Catalyst is a big heavy item so usually will be in the Silencer Part of an exhaust. ( End Can)

Hi Roy
Staintune only make the end can, you use your original header pipes to just behind the right passenger leg guard, you just cut it and fit the sleeve supplied , it takes about 20 minutes and is very easy. The 3 catalysts are in the end can on the stock system, Forgot to mention in the new staintune can, the end baffle is removable, sounds EVEN LOUDER an will give a bit more performance with no additional setting up. By the way before we got staintunes, we bought 2 ARROW full exhausts ( pipes & can ) I fitted the first to debs bike and it looked great until i laid down to put the bash plate back on, it was then i noticed that the left pipe does not bend round under the engine as does the stock one but it points down then bends up to meet the right hand pipe, this means the left pipe is about 2 1/2" lower than the bash plate:confused1:We tested it with deb sitting on the bike and because of the additional weight ( not that she,s fat, honest ) the bend in the pipe was only 4" from the ground. As we do a little trail riding on them it was totally impractical and we hadnt got any panniers or touring kit on, she couldnt even get off the kerb without bashing them. sorry its so long winded i get carried away ASH

The removable baffle does nothing performance wise. It adds less than 1 hp and makes the bike run richer at the high end of the revs. We tried mine with the baffle in and out in the Dynotune machine and compared the readings and guess what? The baffle is staying inside.

The only achievement is a lot more noise. I ran my bike without the baffle for a week (before dynotuning) and it only used more fuel, maybe because I was getting quite generous on the throttle as a result of that deep note that came out of the exhaust.

So I can tell you after proving it in the machine that removing the baffle does SFA for the performance. I rather save my hearing too.
