Kawasaki Versys-X 300 Adventure
The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 has the same 300cc motor as the Ninja 300, but with a new chassis to suit it's mission.
A slipper clutch, ABS, mini-fairing, spoke wheels and long travel suspension are standard, with a weight around 170kg, and seat height of around 80cm.
In addition to the standard model, there are two more:
The "Urban" gets hand guards, tank pad, centrestand and 30 litre topbox. The "Adventure" gets crash bars, centrestand, tank pad and 17 litre panniers.
Kawasaki claim that in eco mode, the bike will have a range of over 380km on a full tank.
Looks very interesting to me, and could suit a lot of people. The price should be very good, and get a lot more people going on low-cost adventures on a new modern bike. Along with the new BMW 300 AND the new Honda CRF250 Rally, it's getting interesting in the small bike world!

Looks good
Looks good, just one question. Why would they run the exhaust up front and low? Makes it an easy target for rocks.
Thanks for sharing,
Mac

170kg? Too Heavy!
What's the point of a 300cc bike if it weights the same than the 650?
The whole point of downsizing is to reduce weight (as far as I am concerned).
In comparison, my XT250 weight about 110kg (dry) ... Seeing those new "wee" overweight bikes coming into the market, I think I will stick with my old XT!
But maybe other makers are bringing small and lighter bikes. That would be ideal!

Looks like there are a few 'light' adventure bikes coming along and they all seem utterly pointless, why does a 300cc bike need to weigh more than a KTM 690? Even the existing CRF250L outweighs a 690, giving one third of the power. They all outweigh the BMW X-Bikes, substantially less power.
The only advantage I can see is maybe cost, if these bikes are dead cheap then I guess they make a kind of sense - the 690/701 is dammed expensive.
It's like the manufacturers have finally heard the call for lighter adventure bikes but for some reason ran off at 45 degrees to the sound of the noise. They are getting closer, but they'll never actually get where we want them to come to.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
