KLE 500 rear tyre size

Hi all,
This may be a simple question, I am looking to replace my rear tyre, I like the look of the heidenau k60 but as far as I can see the nearest size I can get is 140/80-17 will this be okay, will it fit? As I said, this may be really simple, I'm just not sure!

Heidenau K60's come in KLE size! I have them on my bike, now running close to 7000km. Rear is great, front can slip quite fast off road on gravel if you don't pay attention. I have the normal K60 not K60scout version!

Thanks for that Ghosty, are you running tubeless or tubed tyres? I can only seem to find them in the right size in tubeless?

I'm running the Mefo Explorer on mine, doing well and good in the dirt too.

Next time I'm going to fit the Mitas E07's, I have them on my Wee-Strom and they do very well, the rear on the Wee is going to make 25,000 km's based on the current wear rate.

Both the Mefo Explorer and the Mitas E07 are a 50/50 tyre and very similar to each other so can be "mixed and matched" with each other.

I think the Heidenau K60's area bit to "square" in profile [I have a part worn set in the shed that I was given for the Strom].

FWIW, for better dirt/gravel performance don't go for the wider option- either stay with the stock rear width or go down one size.
I went from a 150 width rear on the Strom to a 140, a big improvement on gravel and off road.

Edit;
Rockmonkey1, you can fit tubes in to a tubeless tyre without any problems.

Thanks for that Ock! I have heard that using tubeless tyres with tubes makes them heat up, or something? something to do with the inside of the tyre being different, i did always wonder what difference it would really make!
I'll have a look for the mefo explorer sounds like a good option, i'm looking for a tyre to take to morocco as I bought TKC 80's and I dont think they'll get all the way there and back, they seem to be wearing quickly!

I've been putting tubes in car and bike tubeless tyres for many years, never had a problem.

The Mitas E07 will be even better then the Mefo Explorer I think [both are near identical in tread pattern], the Mitas E07 on my Wee-Strom appears to be wearing a little better than the Mefo Explorer on my KLE, the Strom weighs more and carries much more luggage/camping gear as well- the rear tyre looks like lasting around 25,000 km's on it.

Either one is a very good 50/50 tyre for dirt/road use, just remember that like all dirt oriented tyres, they don't grip on wet tar as good as a full road tyre [though they are both gripping as good as road tyres on dry tar].

Hey!

Sorry for late reply I was on a holidays with my girlfriend. I am using tubless tires WITH tubes. The dealer said it would work without any problems and it does.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
