Softer?
This is interesting - looks like the KLR is being made into a cheaper version of the F650: more street, less dirt.
The good:
* Stiffer, more-rigid suspension
* More low-rev torque + more power
* Higher electrical output
* Stronger brakes
The bad:
* Less suspension travel
* More fragile looking fairing
The baffling:
* Narrower rear - it never seemed a wide bike
* Is the sub-frame held on by better bolts?
* No mention of a fix to the balancer chain tensioner problems...
Looks like it's gonna be a better bike overall. Shame about the suspension travel reduction, now a lot less than, say, the DR650, but maybe that's balanced by stiffness + adjustability. Will be interesting to hear how old & new compare on the trail

2008 klr price
I just put a deposit down on an '08 KLR650 that retails for $6900CDN ($400 over the '07 list price at a local dealer here). The first shipments are due in late March/early April.

kick ass blke
Just saw the '08 KLR in Daytona, up close and personal --- no demo rides though --- I sat on it, felt it up, played with it and drooled on it. On looks alone it's light years ahead of the earlier version, imho --- time will tell --- the green one is a must have for me.

I'd rather have 8 inches of good suspension any day over 9 inches of crap.
Cheers

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
