Whats the largest aftermarket tank available?
I'd like to put on the largest aftermarket on my KLR. There are some common large ones around but does anyone know of a very large?

Doesn't the KLR hold over 6 US gallons? Thats about 22 liters or so, no:confused1: How far you need to go on one tank?

I don't know of any aftermarket tanks for the KLR any larger than the stock tank. Its possible Acerbis make one, but no US companies do. (IMS, Clarke)

Go online to Acerbis and see what size is offered for KLR.
Maybe pannier tanks?

Or do what many do...strap a high quality plastic fuel jug to the back of the
bike. Maybe a two gallon one?

With that, you could go about 360 miles (575 kms)

Dual-Star sells a tank that is 6.6 gallons, plastic. They say that although Kawasaki says the KLR stock tank is 6.1, it's really only 5.5, so with their tank you get a supposed 1.1 extra gallons.

I've got a 28lt tank on my KLR (it came with it when I bought the bike). From the paperwork it looks like it came from a company called IMS. www.imsproducts.com They're based in Riverside CA 92507 and it appears he paid about $225 for it. It's a Rally/Military KLR650 tank. Not sure if the price included shipping to Germany or not though.
IMHO though, it's probably a bit big. And adds a lot of weight to the bike when full. Not to mention catches the wind with the size of it. But then I'm not a particularly big person so maybe it will suit your needs better than mine.

try aqualine here in australia, i thnk up to 32 litre, also some of the german ones are 40lt, may need to do a few basic mods to get it on, local supply have rear tanks 8lt, go over the back of your seat, work well, called Nomad, try a google, cheers al

I carefully measured the capacity of my IMS tank as soon as I received it, and found it to hold 7.5 gallons, considerably more than the advertised amount. I have read somewhere that there is considerable variation in capacity of the IMS tanks for the KLR, and my tank would seem to confirm that. All of that isn't usable unless the bike is laid down on it's left side so the remaining gas in the lower right side of the tank can drain to the petcock side. I've done that and it does result in almost the entire tank capacity being available.

Check out or do search of some sort and you can find a write up of a guy who took a hose from one side of tank to the other (inside tank) and was able to such both sides down well. If interested, give me a shout and I can look for it for you. Might find it in Dual Sport News site.

This procedure is for the stock tank, but might also work for an IMS tank. The rest of the faqs on the bigcee website are a goldmine of information on the KLR.

Seems like it would be easier and at least as quick to put a tap on the RH side and T the line, but, I'm not bothered by drilling my tank.

One more point for a KLR.
