Toyota Land Cruiser Cambelt (100 series) - Issue

Hi All

I'm after some advice, is it normal for a cambelt to need replacing after 30k after the original ones were replaced? My light has just come on showing it needs replacing again. It 's on a 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series

The vehicle has full main dealer history and the guy I bought it off actually worked there. It is showing as being replaced at 58k on the history and also on the advert.

Does this sometimes happen or has he just stamped the book without doing the work?

Any ideas?

Whats the interval supposed to be? I reckon he just didn't reset the timer after he did the job. If the dealer service interval is around what your current mileage is then thats probably your answer

They reckon every 60,000 miles. Have already changed it again but starting to feel that I should have stuck with Nissan as have had more problems with this in 2 years than I did in 12 years with my old Y60.

I think that might just be a feature of more modern cars than landcruisers in particular. The old nissan patrol was an awesome beast, but the Navara has a terrible reputation

for peace of mind its easy enough to change the belt and quite cheap in relation to a head and pistons, he may now have reset the warning light! can you contact the previous owner?

Cambelts are just replaced at a certain service interval. There is no sensor which detects that the belt is getting worn, it's just a service interval reminder. So if it was done 30k miles ago, no need to worry, just find out how to reset the light.

The 100 series is an overweight pudding with poor ground clearance, but that 1HD-FTE diesel engine is marvelous!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
