I'm pretty amatuerish about this whole fundraising thing, limiting myself to a webpage (see below) for Save The Children.
Before I go though I'm going to do a 'press release' to the local and national (Scottish) papers about my trip. I'm currently a press photographer and am fairly sure that at least the locals, and very possibly the Scottish nationals will run it. The papers love anything a bit different from the normal shaving head/running marathon for charity stories. One benefit of the whole Ewan McGregor, Long Way Round, thing is that adventure biking is now 'sexy' (shudder!) meaning it makes 'good copy'!
Perhaps if you contact the papers and TV stations, get some kind of idea how much coverage you'll get, then you can go back to local companies and tell them exactly what they'll get out of it.
I suspect you'll find it easier to get donations to your charity than free kit but I may be wrong. I haven't attempted to get free kit so I don't really know.
Save The Children were very keen that I contact the press as this kind of publicity is worth loads to them, even notwithstanding the money you personally raise for them. I guess it's like getting free advertising space.
Luck with it, Matt
