BMW Off Road Course

Hi All

I'm booked up to do a BMW Off road course in the UK this summer in Wales and was wandering if anyone had ever done one before.

Just wandered if anyone had any feedback or pointers?

Cheers

Not done the one in Wales but I did do Hechlingen in Germany a few years back. 3 days of exhausting fun and great amount of learning. I thought I could ride a bike having been doing so for more years than I care to admit but I still learned a lot. You can view pictures here: BMW Enduro Park Hechlingen - June 2005 - Shared photo album - PhotoBox

I know from other people you need to book your accomodation well in advance in Wales to avoid disappointment. The Abercrave Inn is the place most people stay . If you go over and look at the UK GS forum at UKGSer* ::::* For BMW GS Enthusiasts there are lots of folks there who can give you information and benefit of their experience. There is a ladies section on that site too and lots of the guilrs have doen the course and can tell you how they got on.
Top tip from me is if you don't have some good protective off road boots then you should invest in them before the course. Your ankles are vulnerable so protect them well. I was very grateful for my boots at Hechlingen when i took a slow tumble on a slope. One girl on our group was less lucky.
Have fun - you'll love it

I did it back in 2002. Very good if a little expensive. Comments above about booking the hotel and having decent boots are spot on. Also, don't expect to ride home in the clothes you did the last day in, you will be filthy and could be very wet too.

Enjoy

Andy

Rookie to hero in 2days. Well, maybe not but it is well worth the (fair chunk of) money. Learning to ride heavy, 4stroke, roadbikes (BMWs) off-road will set you up perfectly if you're doing a LWR or LWD or Morocco or anything where you'll be riding a heavily loaded motorcycle.

Hey Again BC.

Shaun at Gecko motorcycles does off road training in Dubai. They are next to Marina Antiques at the edge of Al Quoz, on the road that goes from Arabian Ranches to Um Sequim.

Off-road course in Wales

Howdy,
Did it in '05 (I think), first day was wet, second was hot and dusty, like two seasons.
Stayed in a dump, so do get into abercrave inn, or be careful about alternatives.
Course was a hoot, and you will learn a lot from very good teachers.
Quite strenuous, rode there and back from Holyhead ferry, well pooped when I got home.
Be equipped for wet weather....Enjoy!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
