Camping in the middle east

Does anyone know of camping grounds, or camping etiquette, in Syria, eastern Turkey and Iran? I know of a couple in Jordan, but I assume it's all too hard in Saudi.

thanks
Brett

In south part of Turkey, go and as a villager for a camping in his/her yard. They will definately say yes even they are gonna invite you to their home. Lovely people over there.

good luck

Saudi and Syria also no probs.

Can bush camp in Syria depending on where u r.If near towns ask a farmer.

If u r driving tapline to Saudi just pull off road a k or 2.

Don't forget hospitality to travellers is a cornerstone of Arab tradition.Camped all over the ME for years and NEVER had a people problem.

If y r based in Abu Dhabi try 4x4 club ME 4x4.They go in the desert most weekends.Enjoy the ME.

I agree with the above. I camped out in Iran and one time I got a breakfast invitation the next morning. Never had a better one in my life.

Arab hospitality is unmatched anywhere in the world. It gets to the point where it gets in the way of your travel, because everyone want to invite you for a meal, and the western mind thinks there's a catch.. they want something in return.. There never was a catch.

Camped all over Turkey and Syria no problems at all. You get occassional visit from curious farmers/locals, but they are very friendly. Mainly Syrians, they seemd to be the most hospitable nation I ever met (Czech number plate, instead of British might have helped in very north eastern ereas close to Iraq though...)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
