Djibouti, Yemen, Oman, UAE
Has anybody done this route recently, is it possible, I heard there is a good road now linking Yemen and Oman but not sure if I heard right. Want to catch a ferry from Djibouti in East Africa then up to UAE and over to Iran.
Any info would be great
Cheers
Robbo

Just arrived in Amman from Sanaa. Beddhist and me rode that route (the other way round). No problems in Yemen, good roads, all tarred. The road from Al Mukhalla along the coast seems to be the nicest bit (did not ride it myself).

Right. Take your pick of the two tar roads, either inland from Seyun (in Wadi Hadramawt) to the border, or take the coast road up from Al Mukalla.
Right now the coast is getting uncomfortably hot and muggy, but it is a scenic road in places. However, don't miss Wadi Hadramawt, and particularly the side valley Wadi Do'an. You ain't seen nothin' like it.
I don't think there is a ferry from Djibouti, but you can hire a dhow to Aden. Ralf & Eva went that way, ask them: RalEva at Motorradnomaden.de.
Info on the Iran ferry is in a topic under Trip Transport and I posted info on the Oman border crossings on the HU "database".
Also, check out Lars' and my websites for stories and pictures on these countries.
Yemen was the highlight of my trip so far.
