Dubai to UK - via Iran/Turkey
So - mad plan but know this is the place to ask for advice as been reading up and researching for a while now.
3 British Guys
3 British Passport Holders
2 Residents of Dubai - though might be pulling out.
3 Motorbikes - not bought yet, but we are all Bikers
Outline Route thoughts
Dubai - via Iran Ferry, Drive Across into Turkey and up through Europe.
So far - I know we can get a ferry to Bandar Abbas into Iran, need a Carnet de Passage and International Insurance at each Border.
My Questions - Request for Info..
So - has anyone on this forum done this recently in 2016/17?
Any advice on routes, tips, tricks or would you mind a call from me?
Do you have to go on an accompanied tour across Iran and how long should that take seeing a few of the sights but not handing around too much?
Visas - easy/hard, how long to get?
Thinking on 2 weeks for the entire trip back to Blighty - how achievable is this?
Best Bikes - that can be easily sourced in Dubai - most comfort and reliability for the trip? GS/Other?
I know that's a lot but welcome any experienced guidance from those that have already trodden this path !

By virtue of the distance to be covered what will you actually be able to see and enjoy in two weeks? To complete the journey in fourteen days requires a daily mileage of just under 300 miles.
From what I have been informed, a UK passport holder will not be given an Iranian visa for unaccompanied travel. With a guide you will probably (others will confirm) have to travel at their speed plus fund the additional vehicle, travel and accommodation costs.

It's perfectly possible Bluebossa, I have several UAE resident British friends who did it last summer, on bikes, unaccompanied. It wasn't the first time they'd done it either. Takes a bit of inside knowledge but they have that now.
PM me your contact details and I'll put you in touch with them. They can answer all your other questions too.

I did the exact route on my R1100GS back in 1999 (with the exception that I took the ferry from Sharjah direct to Bandar Abbas). Granted, it was quite a few years ago, but seeing as how you have asked about timings and distances:
Total Distance: 9,126 kms
Total Time: 12 Days
Average per day: 760 kms
Average speed: 70.5 kmh
Shortest distance in one day: 317 kms
Longest Distance in one day: 1,153 kms (13 hrs 30 mins)

Hi Guys,
New to the forum so please excuse any mistakes I might have made. I recently stumbled across this site as I was interested in taking up adventure riding, and it seems I'm hooked onto it now. I'm planning to do the route proposed by Bluebossa with the 'return' leg of the journey through Northern Africa. I would greatly appreciate if you guys could share your experiences with me as well. Thanks in advance.
