[there is no] Ferry from Turkey to Saudi Arabia [anymore]

Hello everybody,

I just would like to inform you that i have completed my first motorcycle overland trip from Kuwait to Europe through a ferry from Saudi Arabia to Turkey.

The ferry name is Hattay roro and departs from Iskendrun ports in Turkey and arrives to Duba port in Saudi Arabia three times in a month. It costed me 250 dollars for the bike and 150 dollars for the passenger.

Sailing time is around 3 nights/4 days per way approximately depends on the Suez canal traffic. Suez canal was an amazing experience actually.

Actually this ferry will open another gate to the overlanders specially who is planning to visit Africa through Sudan.

I have posted my trip details at my Instagram account "ossaimi83" and if any body is intersted please contact me for more details.

Thanks
Ossaimi

Interesting. Does the ferry stop in any ports along the way?

And I thought motorcycles were banned from entering Saudi Arabia?

As per the ferry agent, sometimes it stops at Tripoli port in Lebanon to load more trailers. This ferry is intended initially for trucks, so if there no enough trucks they will go for a quick stop in Lebanon.

I don't think motorcycles is banned in Saudi. The only thing you need is visa which i believe it will be possible in this year for foreigners.

Thanks
Ossaimi

As far as I know it's not possible to have a tourist visa or similar for Saudi Arabia, only a 3 days transit (but then you have to deal with closed borders, like in Jordan)

Hello Ossaimi

Thanks for the info.

Can you tell me the name of the roro company where you bought the ticket from?

This 3 times a month is certain known schedules or every 10 days whenever the roro is full ?

Thanks

redsnapper there are videos on youtube, but in arabic showing the journey of the ferry, the cost, people to contact, the food, the beds, bathrooms, etc. I did not experience, but i did study the route. Its 3-4 days from duba saudi arabia, to iskandar turkey. For motorcycles its $350, passenger $200, total including all the fees $550 each way. From saudi to turkey the office collects (410 sar) $109 for documents

Its shared bunk beds, and it doesnt look like the bikes are strapped. They say the ac sucks, the bathrooms are not the cleanest, the bathrooms in the rooms do not work. But other then that they say it was a good experiencing the ferry journey.

Hi Ossaimi,

I am currently travelling in Saudi Arabia on a motorcycle, coming from Dubai. Reached out to the companies you mentioned above in order to get to Turkey, no reply yet.

Do you have any updated information maybe on this route? Or, otherwise as a secondary route, do you have any details on RoRo from Kuwait to Iran?

Iran will start issuing tourist visas again as of October 23rd.

Many thanks.

I believe that the Turkey - Saudi Arabia ship was lost to fire in late 2019 or 2020 and have not heard from it since.

I have never heard of Iran to Kuwait RORO and can't see there being much of a vehicle trade between the two.

I think the best chances are for the Iran - UAE ferry to start again. Try emailing the agent.

Traveling with car or motorcycle? There is a fellow in kuwait (instagram ilogist1) who offers shipping services of all kinds, and he specializes in Kuwait, to Germany. You can ship a bike in a shared container from Kuwait to Germany for around 2200-2400 Sar that includes everything, taxes port fees etc, and shipping takes 45 days

You can cargo air ship the motorcycle, that will cost 3-5 times more

Hatay RoRo

As you can see on one of the youtube videos, the vessel in question is the Hatay RoRo. It is not lost in fire. I traced it through vesselfinder. Nowadays it connects Iskenderun in Turkey with Haifa in Israel. Actually it is in Haifa.

As I am planning a trip too through Saudi Arabia to Europe, I am eager to find a ferry. However I couldn't find any leaving from a Saudi port. There is however a ferry from Haifa to Pireaus and from Alexandria to Pireaus.

Best greetings, Mathew
