Saudi - Kuwait - Iraq - Turkey
planning a tour to UK soon from Saudi Arabia ... have posted in the bike section regarding my bike question, but how about the route, I had in mind:
- Saudi Arabia
- Kuwait
- Iraq (toured it 6 months ago its not so bad as long as you travel by day)
- Turkey
and into eastern europe, still undecided where to pass through ...
any suggestions on the easiest route from Turkey to France? not neccessarily the shortest route, but the most enjoyable. Im also a bit of a photographer so scenic routes are nice ...
Also in mind is to ride from Riyadh to Jeddah, take a ferry to Egypt, then to Italy (are there ferries from alexandria to Italy?)
anyone here been from egypt to europe or vice-versa?
thanks

No ferries from any Middle East country to Europe, except Israel, perhaps.
The easiest way to get from Turkey to France in summer is the ferry from Cesme in TR to Ancona/Italia. I don't think the Turkey-Venezia ferry is running any more.
The most scenic: island hopping through Greece, then take your pick from either up through the Balkans or up the spine of Italia.
If your bike is registered in SA you will need Green Card insurance for Europe. Try the Turkish AA in a big city (I got mine in Izmir). If it works it will probably be a lot cheaper than buying it in an EU country.

Salut from Southern France, the bikers' paradise,
Peter.

I have recently been considering riding from Saudi to the UK. The route i have been looking at is:-
Saudi, Kuwait, Iran (ferry from Kuwait), Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hugary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Holland and then ferry to the UK.
I see you're original post was from a while ago, are you any closer to going or have you made the trip?
