Syria visa from overseas embassy? Border visa?
Is it possible for Americans to get visas for Syria from a Syrian Embassy overseas? Is it possible to get border visa for Syria?

Foreign Syrian embassies - probably it is possible, they seem to be relatively flexible IMHO. But don't hope too much - things tend be organized in "arabic way" in the embassies too (depending on their mood, time of the day, your face, etc). Maybe conserve some time since they usually do the visa with 3 or more days through embassy, maybe even a week or more, IF they agree to issue one for you. Instant VISAs seemed to be impossible (at least with the embassy in Warszaw, Poland we went).
But in any case I'd recommend issuing the VISA through any embassy before going and leaving the on-the-border issuing lottery as the last hope if all else fails.
Check this thread for the latter "lottery" taking:

The official policy is to not issue the visas the border... but in recent months (years?) this has been totally ignored.
Visas are possible and easy to obtain at border crossings for Americans, Canadians, and, well... most nationalities. Sometimes, because you're an American, they may make you wait for a few hours to piss you off - but they will grant you a visa.
I know this because I've been in and out of Syria three times in the past month and a half, each time collecting a fresh visa at the border. I've met half a dozen Canadians and about as many Americans who have had done the same. (Just don't go to Israel first... or SAY you're going to Israel after!)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
