I travelled through Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Egypt during Ramadan in 2006 and had absolutely no problems. People were a bit jumpy during the first few days (mainly smokers whose tempers were short) but other than that it was fine. I made a point of trying to respect their beliefs and not eat or drink infront of people where possible (the last thing I would want when I was hungry was some crazy tourist on a motorbike stuffing his face infront of me). Where I needed to drink or eat and people were around I would simply ask if they were ok with it. They always said yes, and seemed happy that I had the respect to ask them.
The ferry from Jordan to Egypt was NUTS due to lots of people coming back from Mecca. Trouble free, and a fantastic experience, but very busy.
