Great!

Thanks for all the updates and camping info, very useful.

What's it like using a [visa type] debit card for cash at atm's or changing money/traveller's cheques in Syria and Jordan.
I have a card with a very low worldwide loading and 0% interest rate.

I found a few places in Syria were I could use my (standerd) debit card, in Syria.
In Aleppo there was one in the biggest hotel (forgot the name) but it's in the centre. In Damascus you'll have no problem finding a bank were you can use your card.

Entering Jordan from Syria, there was a ATM I could use at the border. But there wasn't one on the way back at the Syrian border, 'don't ask me how I know' but it took me almost a whole day and the help of a verry nice Syrian border guy before I was across.
ATM's in Jordan were no problem at all.

Hotel Sheraton.

Sometimes, none of the ATMs will dispense cash to you (for no fault of yours or your bank or your account or your card) just becasue the machine decided not to !!! It happened to us with all 6 ATM machines in Aleppo.

So, always carry some cash in hand (USD or EURO preferred) for such times so you can atleast exchange it at the hotel etc, like we did.

cheers

Hi

We are planning a round trip from Turkey to Jordan and back like Arow. What sort of time would that take? We would like to see many things in all 3 countries. Did you have the chance to get to Queneitra on the board with Golan Heights in Syria? Your trip looks great!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
