Camping Assa Morocco
I am taking a group of Landrovers to Morocco this October and I want to head from Tata towards Assa and overnight there. I have found reference to a camp site in the area but am not convinced by the lat long. Anyone camped there, whats it like and where is it please.

Unless it's is new or well hidden I cant say I've seen an official campsite there.
This thread may be useful:

As someone says, there is plenty of nice camping all around, although it's pretty stoney away from the oueds, iirc.

Thanks for the reply Chris.
The site I found is supposed to be at N28 39.347 W09 22.195, but it seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Ive got both of your Morocco books, good reading. I hope to join the road at Foum-Zguid and head for Tata and onto Akka, from there turn left towards Fam El Hism and onto Assa. Hoping to camp somewhere and then take the tracks heading for Taglite and then onto the road north east of Tan Tan, any thoughts would be greatfully received as I will have 12 other vehicles with me and dont want to get it wrong.

There does seem to be some sort of installation at that waypoint, including shade which may mean sand (and so a nice camping spot). Maybe an abandoned venture?
I know that just west of FeH the desert to the north of the road is smooth flat sand, unlike around Assa as I recall.
If you want some sort of infrastructure for your group, why not get get in touch with the hotel mentioned in Assa and ask if you can camp there. Maybe they could lay on a meal too. For 12 cars it would be worth their while.
It's a nice run to Taglite, though I suppose a dozen cars will require some herding.

passed that way last year- can't remember the spot you say but Assa petrol station is here N28 37.054 W9 27.037 and the hotel Nidaros is here N28 36.174 W9 26.696- maybe call them and ask?
you might be taking some chances taking a group to a place you have not been to/checked out, no? could get some grief mate...

I've been searching in all my files (in a file with all the Morocco camp sites and in a camp guide of Morocco) and there's no an official camp site in Assa

Cheap accomodation in Assa
For those that don't want to pay for the only hotel in town and on a budget, there's a nice little place called Espace Tagmat Touristiq @ N28 36.252 W9 25.574. They have cheap rooms, and the man running it is nice. Go through the main town and head towards the oasis (or old town).
