Ceuta Green Card Again
Hi, I know this question has been asked before , but after a couple of hours of searching all I've found is conflicting answers, some old, some new. Hopefully someone has an up to date answer or can point me to a thread that can answer all our questions.
I understand the insurance office at the port is closed. Can we travel to Ceuta without green card insurance (4x4), pass through immigration and customs without having to show it and then buy it just outside Ceuta?
If you can, does anyone have the GPS coordinates of the closest insurance office and how much is 3 months cover likely to cost?
Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the HUBB!
Your standard UK insurance should cover you throughout Europe which includes Ceuta - check with your insurer.
You should be able to pass through the frontier at Ceuta as vehicle insurance isn't normally a condition of entry.
A quick search of this forum will give you details of insurance offices in Fnideq or Tetouan. 3 months insurance for a 4x4 is 1950MAD - about £156.
BUT... The moment you leave the border, you'll be driving without insurance. Is it worth the risk? What if a kid runs out in front of you?
Far less worry to cross to TangerMed and buy insurance at the port. There are banks, insurance offices, etc. Job done.
Happy trails,
Peter

My UK insurer wouldn't cover me in 2011.
I arrived in Tanger-Med after the insurance hut was closed. Officials just told me to drive slowly until I could get to another insurance office but I waited for the office to open. No idea on the level of cover I actually bought though, and the only options were vehicle type and period of cover.
The most expensive being if I only had 2-3 seats (so was a van/truck and commercial seemed to be their thinking), but since I had 5 seats in total my camper was charged the same as a car. Costs for the different vehicle types and different time periods were posted in their window but I don't remember the figures.

Thanks guys, looks like we'll sail to Tanger Med and get insurance at the port avoiding driving without insurance. Sod's law, that if we sailed to Ceuta we'd mow down a school outing in the short run to buy insurance.
