insurance green card for Morocco

Does anyone know of a UK insurer prepared to issue a green card extension for Morocco? For a modified Land Rover. None I have spoken to will. I have read Chris Scott's latest on the necessity to buy insurance at the border. Is this now the only way? Thanks.

I had the same problem back in 2011. I arrived in Melilla. On crossing the border we paid a "fixer" to phone the proprioter of the insurance shop literally just inside the Moroccan border. He opened the shop especially for us and sorted out insurance for 2 motorcycles and our ancient 4x4. You typically have to purchase for a period of days, 7, 10 or 21 if my memory serves. We also discovered that once insured it would cover any driver - but maybe that was specific to out policy.

Failing that you could always try scaling the fence :-) Hundreds of migrants scale barrier between Morocco and Melilla | euronews, world news

Hi Harry,

The NFU are very Land Rover friendly and we've used them successfully in the past for green cards for Morocco. They were cool about modified vehicles too.
Aviva (ex Norwich Union) issue them too. Going through a broker usually helps.

If you draw a blank there are insurance offices at both Tanger Med and Ceuta. You can purchase insurance for 5days - 480MAD, 10 days - 620MAD, 1 month - 950MAD, 3 months - 1950MAD or 6 months - 3850MAD. You can now pay with euros too.

Happy trails,

Peter

Morocco Insurance

My insurance wouldn't issue a green card either. It is becoming harder to get.
Having arrived at Tangier-Med end of December, after the customs etc, there is a row of portacabins. One changes money and one issues on the spot insurance. I think it cost me about 120 Euro's for 30 days for a Landcruiser. It is legit as the paperwork was checked at a checkpoint in the Western Sahara and was accepted.

Cheers,

Bob.

My good friend Carrick has just scored a green card from IAM Surety for £45. Fully comprehensive.

Result!

Thx Peter good info.

I also believe that LV insurance issue a green card, but AFAIK like other companies you need to be insured with them.

This company is excellent, Home
though for Morocco I found it slighty expensive.

Cheers Mark

I'm planning on driving down to Senegal in Jan and wanted to check if I'm right in thinking that insurance bought at Tangier Med will cover me up to the border of Mauritania?

Should be fine. You'll be travelling south through Western Sahara which is part of Morocco.

Happy trails,

Perter
