Tizi n Test − still narrower and rougher than the Tichka, like it always was.
The less rough MA12 down towards Assaragh (off Mich ‘6837’ road) remains 2WD and GS12-able.
As predicted in the book, tarmac has now reached Aguinan and going south takes the mountain (pylon) route over towards Tamsoult and on to Akka Irhen back on the 6837. It won’t be going up the cliff and beyond, we were told.
Got a bit confused with the new road but what the book calls ‘oil drum lid junction (MA6 KM76) may be a fourway now: north to Olaf dead end, SW to the road, S to the road too, NE up to Jebel Timouka.
We reversed MA6 here: great desert ride with stony episodes in the valley oueds and gnarlier stony stages on the climb up to Timouka Pass. Epic views and hot work on the 650s, easy on the 250s. Luckily, from the pylon turn off (KM51) it improves dramatically and passes a well I missed last time before the truly gobsmacking view north over the Issil plain. Down below, fast track then somewhere between Issil and the N10 we picked up the tarmac which led NW to the N10 about 20km out of Tazenacht.
Gas Haven, fyi, costs 100ds a visit
We took a day ride out of Nekob up MA14 to the Olaf junction at KM46 (not a route for metre-wide alloy boxes), then followed Olaf back down SSW. The mind-boggling descent around '1750' on the map below knocks your regular Jebel Sarhro crossing into a cocked cheche.
We reversed the well known Jebel Sarhro MH4 next day. All by the book, passing MTB tours. North of Iknioun (not done this bit in years) it becomes a wide dirt motorway (big bike heaven I suspect) except for the twisty drop off about halfway along.
This piste joins the N10 (all roadworks) just east of the two Shell and Afriquia fuel stations on the west end of Tinerhir -
about here.
If heading south it's an easier place to start than what the book suggests at KM3.5 but which meets up within a couple of kms going south.

A brilliant trip of about 1500km, all the better for not trying to pack in too much rough riding. I must be getting old ;-)
