Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Panic, I am off to Morocco leaving 4 February 2008 for 2 months and have just discovered from the HUBB that the insurance offices at Ceuta are closed. I have tried to get motorcycle insurance in the UK for Morocco but failed miserably and was intending purchasing cover on entry. Seems this is going to be a problem and the only solution seems to be to head to FEZ, which is a city I was seeking to bypass on my travel south to the desert. Does anybody know a company in the UK where I can purchase 2 months short period insurance for Morocco for my 2003 Yam XT600E?
Cheers guys; thanks for any help you are able to offer.

I'm surprised you havn't managed to get cover from UK insurance company. In the past Morocco has been included on the Green Card Europe insurance, seems any country on Meditaranian Coast are included, try another UK insurance company if yours wont issue one. Good luck..

No problem with Carol Nash (Norwich Union) I think the cover drops to TPF&T though. Time to change your insurer I think

Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Thanks guys for the response. I was with Carole Nash (the Company was not Norwich Union) until 18 months ago. I insured elsewhere as the attitude from staff and general level of service from Carole Nash was diabolical. I will give Norwich Union Direct a try, but if anybody has any other suggestions that would be much appreciated given that Morooco is a popular destination.
Cheers

Couldn't agree more about CN.
I used NU directly in 2004.
Be careful with the call centre type places, a few think their codes for Macedonia and/or Monaco are Morocco. In 2004 I thought I'd got an easy answer from Devitt DA until the girl on the phone said "you don't need an actual green card for the EU". A few more questions and I found out I was getting cover for Monaco!
Good Luck and let us know how you get on.

I've never had any problems. I have had quite a few bikes insured through them and they also arranged my travel / medical insurance. They always seem to sort what I want sorting. Maybe I'm just lucky with who I've spoken to then !!

Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Hi Guys, thanks again for your contributions. I have phoned Norwich Union Direct and it is like pulling teeth. The person answering the phone to give a motorcycle quote did not even understand what a pannier was and I had to spell it out. As for a non standard Acerbis tank petrol, what can I say!
Had exactly the same problem as outlined by Andy, the girl initially thought that Morocco was Monoco and then realised what I already knew, that the standard territorial limits of the policy did not cover Morocco and I would need a green card, so the inquiry needed to be referred to underwriters. However, there were no "Level 1 Underwriters" available and I have been promised a call back tomorrow. I await the outcome with interest having spent an hour on the phone already. Thankfully it is freephone! I will let you know the outcome.
Cheers

I've not got a bike but I can highly recommend Stuart Collins in Swansea, they do European insurance generally but specialise in other stuff ...might be worth a call www.stuartcollins.com/

Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Hi guys. OK looks like I have sorted cover. Decided to phone Carole Nash and spoke to an extremely helpful guy there called Saeed Hassan who confirmed that Zenith Insurance offer cover for Morocco, but limited to a maximum of 30 days per trip. However, as I am going for nearly 2 months. Saeed spoke to Zenith Underwriters who agreed to give me a Green Card for the period of my trip. Upshot is that I have bought an annual policy for third party only with a green card for 2 months in Spain and Morocco at a total £190. This is based on a 52 yr old on an XT600E with no claims/convictions and maximum NCD. So if you need cover for Morocco it might be worth giving Saeed a ring at Carole Nash on 0800 955 5083 on extension 2619. Just got to keep my fingers crossed that the correct documentation arrives before I leave, although I have an assurance it should be here in 2 working days. I will keep you posted! Seems that the service from insurance companies/brokers very much depends on whether you are lucky enough to get through to the right person. Cheers.

Nice one. I hope Mr. Hassan gets a sales bonus, cos I'll be giving him a call
It really is a case of who you call.

Looks like we are on the same boat, In more ways than one. I leave for Morocco on the 4th, Portsmouth to Bilbao and have no insurance. I have been told we can get it in Tangier. I did just try CN but no luck as I have a trade policy. Bit envious as I have only a month there.

Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Hi Guys, still not out of the woods yet. The documentation promised from Carole Nash has still not arrived. If it doesn't turn up in tomorrow's post, I will be on the phone chasing Saeed. Hi Andy; out on interest I did some research on Zenith Insurance and their head offices are based in Gibralter believe it or not, although they are authorised to trade in the UK and regulated by the Finanacial Services Authority for business transacted in the UK, so all should be OK using them. That's provided me paperwork arrives before departure. Hi BMW biggles, yes we are on the same boat; hopefully catch up with you for a on the ferry. I am riding a black 03 XT600E with Tenere stickers on me Acerbis tank. Well what can you do if you can't afford a new Tenere 660?
Cheers

I am in Maroc at the moment. When asked for insurance at checkpoints I have simply shown them a laminated copy of my UK policy. It looks suitably impresive and no more questions asked. Probably not the sensible way of doing things, but cheap and a good fallback if your other options do not work out as planned.
