rabies vaccination
Hi there,
has anyone suffered a dogbite in Morocco? Next week I have my vaccination date and wonder if I should put the triple rabies shot on the list.
best regards

You should probably raise the question on another part of the forum.
Make sure you understand what the rabies vaccination does, its not like the others.

Never suffered a dog bite, never seen a rabid dog, and that's despite spending about four entire years in the country in the last 45 years.
A friend was bitten by a cat in Morocco and had precautionary rabies treatment; emerged unscathed.
I'm setting off next week to southern Spain and will probably then cross to Morocco. Might wait in Spain a week or so first as the weather forecast in northern Morocco currently looks pretty dire with rain and little sun.

As Tim said; also been around a lot dogs and puppies in villages and on campsites, never had a problem. Probably more scared of you, as they're not all treated as kindly as here in the UK for example.
Might catch up with that I own you Tim, should be crossing into Maroc on the 21st.

I think it only gets you an extra 24hrs if I remember correctly ?? You still have to get to a hospital.

All the info I have read says that you can't rely on behavior of an animal as an indication of whether it has rabies.
World wide they say that 55,000 die from rabies every year, plus of course unknown numbers that don't get reported. Only ten people are reported to have survived it without pre or post bite vaccinations.
No, I didn't bother getting the very expensive vaccination before visiting Morocco or South America, but who would think of getting vaccinated to visit Europe, but it is present there too.
