Servicing a moto

I was wondering if anyone could help , I drive a DR650 and will need some maintenance on it . Should I do it in Europe or in Morroco , either way I do not know any tech in Europe but their price per hour are a bit scary.( I will be in Europe in August and Morroco in Sept .
Thanks
Hendi

Do the maintenance in Europe. Not too many DRs in Morocco and if you need to order parts you'll inevitably have delays.

Find an independant motorbike workshop instead of a main dealer and you''ll pay lower labour rates. Recommendations? Which countries are likely service locations?

(Save on the shipment costs back to FLA by selling the bike over here - to me!)

Regular maintenance on the DR650 is fairly simple:

All services: check for loose nuts and bolts, lube cable ends, clean or replace fuel filter (depending on what you have).

3500 miles (6,000 Km):

oil- change
air filter- clean

7,000 miles (12,000 Km):

Oil and filter- change
Valves- check
Air filter clean
Spark plugs- replace

All you need in the way of parts is a pair of sparkplugs and an oil filter.

The valves are pretty easy to do if you've done screw-adjust valves before. You'll need a couple of wrenches and some bent tip feeler gauges, plus a big allens head for the left side access plug. Be sure to break the plug free and put it back on with antiseize before you leave. It can be on pretty tight.

The whole thing can easily be done on the road- borrow a pan from a garage to do the oil change, and do the rest in camp or your hotel parking lot.

As you realised mechanic rates in northern Europe are out of this planet at often over €100 per hour with taxes. Spain is much more reasonable at typically under €40 including taxes.

If you would rather have it serviced by a mechanic in Morocco you could visit Moto Plus in Casablanca, see Moto Plus for bike spares in Morocco

Bike stuff

I am OK with doing it in Spain or Morrocco , I contacted few garages in France and the prices were insane , I will be OK even to pay someone who is a descent tech and knows how to work on mono cylinder bike like ours.
Thanks Tim

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
