Using Someone Elses Bike to Travel To Morocco

I have the option to use someone elses bike (partner) to travel to Morocco but the V5 is in their name although the home address is the same as mine.

Would this cause problems ?

Apologies if this has been addressed somewhere else.

I'd imagine it's the same as cars, so on that basis, the original V5 and a detailed letter from the owner expressing consent to ride, in Morocco, for the approximate duration etc. Support with an insurance cover note with your name on, and it ought to be OK.

Did exactly this 3 weeks ago in a Hilux, no problems.

Thanks Mr Jaunt

Will do just that then.

Think it's going to be better to ride the girlfriends V-Strom rather than my BMW 1150RT down there :-)

Weight being the main concern incase I inadvertently drop the bike

One trick that will help confirm the written permission note is when you book the ferry, assuming you use the usual agent who prints out the paperwork for you, get them to fill out both your name and the owner's in the appropriate place. I had a permission note written in German and the customs bloke just handed the import paper back to me and gestured for me to add our names and then he processed them.

If you are using a European green card insurance, make sure that morocco isn't crossed out on the list of countries otherwise you will have to get insurance at the border

Thank you

Thanks to those who have given their advice.

The main thing is it's not unusual to do what I want to do so that makes it more simple :-)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
