2006 ISDE in New Zealand
This is a heads-up for anyone thinking of being in NZ towards the end of this year. The 2006 International Six Day Enduro is being held at Taupo, central North Island starting November 14th (pretty sure, may be the day before). This event, which has been run in various forms, since the 1920s (someone will have an exact date I'm sure, this being the interweb thingy) is being held here for the first time. Unfortuneately I can't go! My parents have a fishing lodge at Taupo so I would have had free accommodation, but anyone wanting somewhere to stay if they are coming over for that even can email me and i will put them in touch. Most places are booked already. After that, take a trip down south, and visit us!
Kind regards
Nigel in NZ

The son of a good friend is hoping to qualify for the ISDE this year, in fact he ran a qualifier in Idaho this past weekend. He did Brazil a couple years ago as well so he has a good chance. Very tough competition with very little reward or support. This is why the US never does much better than tenth place or so.
Would love to come over but I fear the costs may be prohibitive. I've looked into air fare and its not cheap. I don't imagine local accomadation is a bargain either with the event going on?
I'd love to see NZ, rent a bike and really tour both Islands. Some day perhaps.
Guess I'll have to wait till they hold the ISDE in Bulgaria or someplace to get a bargain! An enduro is not much fun to watch, more fun to ride in......

2006 ISDE in New Zealand
For any Aussies interested, Motorcycling Australia are organising a supporters tour to the ISDE - have a look at

under tours
Apparently they have very good accommodation close to the ISDE site.

Yes the resort they have booked is very close and is very nice!!
A good tour by the looks of it.
For those on a budget their is a backpackers type facility also very close to the resort, own rooms etc, and is only about $20 NZD a night, there is a kitchen there to also use.
Cheers

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
