Across America by Motor-Cycle (on a 1919 Henderson Four)
Folks
There might be a better place for me to post this, but I can't really tell, so here goes.
For those of you who attended the HU event in Virginia this year, you may have seen my presentation about my tribute ride in homage to RAF Captain C.K. Shepherd who, in 1919, ventured solo across the United States on a brand new 1919 Henderson Four. I tried to do a centennial ride on my own restored 1919 Henderson, but the hundred-year old crankshaft sheared in Burlingame, Kansas. COVID-19 put the breaks on resuming it in 2020 and even in 2021, but I am heading out to Kansas on September 9th to finish the ride.
The web site has all the update info on maps, timeline, etc. I'm happy to answer any questions here, but you can also send me an email at mark@acrossamericabymotorcycle.com. I just fired the bike up today and did a few miles testing our mapping, navigation, and communications procedures. We'll be back out on Friday for more of the same. If you're super interested, I have a mailing list on the web site where you can get updates via email. I've also got a Garmin 700i with 10-minute-interval "InReach" tracking so you can follow along no matter where in the world you may be.
Thanks again to all the Horizons Unlimited staff and attendees who made this old guy with a weird project made me feel less like a fish out of water and more like a "real" adventure motorcyclist.
