Adventure Travel Film Festival (Australia) Feb 13-15, 2015
Hands up - who's going?
Australia : The Adventure Travel Film Festival
Last year we had a huge HU contingent and we had a BALL!!
This year I've booked the same self-contained cottage - which actually worked out cheaper than camping and was spitting distance to the venue and the pub!
Email me if you'd like to reserve a bed in the cottage

Isn't this event a competitor to the HU meetings, and therefore not something that should be promoted on this site?

It does not resemble the HU event in any way ... it simply attracts the same like-minded people.
And seriously - are we that precious about not mentioning any other event which just enhance peoples travelling experiences?
Are we a community or just a HU business?

Official answer!
We have always, from the very beginning, supported other events. That's why this particular forum is entitled 'Motorcycle Events around the world' as distinct from HU events. The whole concept of HU is community, travelers helping travelers. For example, we've known Austin and Lois for a long time, we've collaborated with them on projects (Achievable Dream project) and events (HUMM Pyrenees) and are happy to see them succeed with the ATFF.
For info, we also cross-promote with the ATFF - we hand out their flyers at our events and vice versa.
We also appreciate Farquhar's concern, we do depend on income from events to pay the rent and feed ourselves, plus keep the website and HUBB running! We're not apologizing for that, nor are we deliberately non-profit...
Hope that helps to clarify our position!

Thank you for the clarification Susan, and apologies for the belated reply.
Scootergal, I was simply asking for clarification. No hostile feelings intended.
Garry.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
